OUR INITIATIVES
1

They talk about “farm to fork”.
We bring you Estate2Plate.
Food is Care is developing a community-rooted food project built from inside the realities of council estate life in Britain — where fresh food is often scarce, ultra-processed products dominate local shops, and food insecurity is shaped as much by housing, energy and transport as by food itself.
Estate2Plate is about reclaiming food environments from within.
Not simply delivering food into communities, but creating spaces where good food, dignity, care and local knowledge sit at the centre of the conversation.
Food is Care itself exists largely outside traditional systems of funding and institutional support. Yet despite that, the work has reached universities, Parliament, food policy spaces, industry AGMs, and national conversations around food insecurity.
That matters.
Because it shows that some of the most important knowledge about Britain’s food system is being produced not from a distance, but from within the communities living its consequences every day.
Now, we want to turn that knowledge into something physical.
Our aim is to raise enough support to take over a space within the estate itself — creating a community-rooted food space where fresh, nutritious and affordable food is genuinely accessible.
Not a project helicoptered in from outside.
Something built from within.
